Summer solstice by the sea

3pm Friday 19 June to 3pm Sunday 21 June

Bridlington, East Yorkshire

Light up your life

A glorious weekend to come together, relax deeply, practice energising, liberating yoga … and dance! Adventure to a spectacular local nature reserve and marvel at 1000s of nesting puffins and maybe spot a dolphin or two.  Enjoy a sparkling solstice sunrise by the sea, with a fire and chanting to cleanse, purify and transform.  Take a trip to a nearby sacred site which has the tallest standing stone in Britain. Reflect, connect and liberate.

Rest, rejuvenate and celebrate Life!

The exceptional coast of East Yorkshire with fossils and jet to find

We’re staying in a huge, beautifully decorated Victorian home with its very own very unVictorian hot tub.

Nearby more secluded beaches are accessed through ancient woodlands.

Likely retreat schedule

Friday 3pm arrivals

Delicious smoothies, energy balls and hugs will be ready to welcome you.

Feel free to enjoy some time in the hot tub or have a massage, reflexology or healing treatment. You may like to have a wander in lovely old town in Brid, full of cafes and antique shops. Or maybe wander down to the harbour full of the calls of seagulls and the sight of fishing boats. Bridlington is Europe’s lobster capital.

6pm Our first feast followed by deeply nourishing Restorative yoga. Then relax with some golden milk in an informal yet magical welcome circle.

Saturday

Gentle yoga to mobilise the body, followed by pranayama and meditation setting us up for the day: relaxed, energised and at home in our hearts.

Breakfast eg fresh fruit salad with yoghurts, maple syrup and nuts or home made granolas or . . . we are happy to cater for individual needs

Adventure to Bempton cliffs and immerse in the wonder of nature. We have the chance to see thousands of nesting puffins, gannets, kittiwakes, razorbills, guillemots and maybe even catch sight of some dolphins. The vibrancy of life at Bemptom is an unforgettable experience.

12  Hearty lunch with plenty of free time for a siesta or therapy treatment.

4 – 7pm yoga and dance in a lovely large and light hall within easy strolling distance.

Experiencing and exploring – playing with our asana practice

Light supper, easy to digest, nutritious and tasty with a very delicious dessert.

Some fun and games. Lets play! Charades, wink murder, Guessmyname Game, whatever. Laughter is the best medicine. We can lighten up and enjoy each other’s company. This is the spirit of the retreat. Children laugh hundreds of times a day, adults, on average, 12. Ouch. Earth school can be so tough at times, it’s crucial that we help ourselves be light hearted.

More balls than most, lovely Liz demonstrating a new use for our Pilates balls, Autumn retreat, 2022

We’ll finish the evening with meditation to calm us down after lots of laughter and to anchor the all important joy of friendship and community, sangha, in our hearts.

Potentially we’ll have quite an early night as we have an early rise … crazy but worth it. Like us.

Sunday

Sunrise by the sea at 4.27/28am. This might seem like an ungodly hour – but really its quite the reverse. At this magical time we have the chance to really connect with our soul, our Spirit and the Great Mystery.

We’ll have a fire to sit by in mouna (silence) in togetherness as the sky lights up. As the sun brightens the sky with incredible colours, we can chant the ancient, transformative sacred Gayatri mantra. Filled with beauty and inspiration and nourished with some hot cacao, we can share the blessings in our lives. This is a powerful practice of affirmation. Once the sun has more fully risen enjoy the joy of Hatha yoga barefoot on the sand. Play with percussion with stones and driftwood we find on the beach. Into these gifts we can set some prayers to release to the sea, our world and the Life we share together.

Following the tradition of summer solstice we can leap/step over the cleansing, transformative fire.

Home for breakfast feast with plenty of hot food 🙂 and potentially a lil’ nap or a treatment.

Adventure to the local sacred site of Rudstone monolith, the largest standing stone in the UK.

Honour our ancestors and recognise our role in shaping reality. In these challenging times we are wise to remember we each have a unique part in helping co-create this world. Every one of us have unique gifts to share and much love to anchor onto the planet. We will affirm this for ourselves and each other – it is often surprising to hear what folk appreciate about us.

Back to base for some deep rest with Restorative yoga and singing bowls. Twenty minutes of quality relaxation can be equivalent to two hours sleep. We’ll have a good couple of hours of Restorative to make up for our early start and to integrate the power of our adventures, ceremonies and time together.

Lush lunch

Time to pack, have more cups of tea, cake and chats

2.30 Farewell closing circle witness with renewed clarity sankalpas, intentions, to take into our lives. Like a drop of water on a pond, the energy of our being ripples out. Rested and inspired we can give of our best to ourselves and to Life.

Pay therapists directly for treatments ie not included in the retreat fee.

There is the option to stay an extra night at Wellington Lodge on the Sunday night. This isn’t part of the retreat, more an opportunity for folk who have travelled from further afield to have more time to be well rested before journeying on. Or for folk who’d like an extra long break. We’ll likely head out to the old lifeboat station for our evening meal where seafood is a speciality and vegetarian and vegan options are also available (we’ll all pay for ourselves). There’s plenty of good cafes nearby for our breakfast too. Folk staying for this extra night contribute another £45.
